From the SCDOT:

It's hard to believe that is has been two years since we broke ground on the 85-385 Gateway project on a sunny February morning. We told people a lot that day. We said the 85-385 Gateway project will provide an economic boost to the Upstate, improve safety for the traveling public, and increase the capacity of this Interchange to function more efficiently for many years to come. At $231 million, it is the second largest transportation project in South Carolina History.

After months and months of prep work, Upstate drivers finally started to see the 85-385 Gateway Project begin to take shape in the third quarter of 2017. The first four of the new bridges and flyovers are under construction, and provide a new look to the area. The bridge work is being done simultaneously with road and underground projects that are part of the Gateway package -- one that will provide a reconfigured interchange and more traffic lanes at the intersection of I-85 and I-385.

And we are proud  to say the project is rolling along at a great pace as we enter 2018. The best is yet to come!

Fourth Quarter of 2017 highlights included:

  •  Wall Construction continued for the I-385 NB to I-85 SB Bridge abutments and continuing erecting the steel girders.
  • Shifted traffic across new bridge from I-85 NB to I-385 NB.
  • Finished concrete paving and barrier wall construction on I-385 NB Collector Distributor / SB Collector Distributor followed by traffic switches onto new I-385 NB Collector Distributor /SB Collector Distributor.
  • Completed the concrete paving and switch traffic onto new I-385 NB Collector Distributor lanes.
  • Constructed a portion of the new Roper Mountain Road bridge over I-85.
  • Finished asphalt paving and switch traffic onto the temporary ramp for I-385 SB to I-85SB.
  • Continued installing drainage along I-385 median and I-85SB.
  • Continued constructing I-385 Bridge over I-85 foundations. This will be followed by girder erection and bridge deck construction activities.
  • Continued SB 385 Walls south of the interchange.
  • Continued with the bridge construction for I-85 SB to Woodruff Road.
