Anderson SC -- Hundreds of school students and Anderson commuters daily pass the small church surrounded by a canopy of trees in the pastoral setting just outside of Anderson at the intersection of Midway Road and Harriet Circle, just up the road from Midway Elementary School.

But apparently someone was not as enamored with the image of this community serving congregation known as Midway Presbyterian Chuch.  Vandals broke three windows and spray painted graffiti; "SUBMIT TO GOD THRU ISLAM" and "MUHAMMED IS HIS PROPHET" on an exterior wall of the church.

The Anderson City Police Department posted the following statement regarding the vandalism on their Facebook page:

Anyone with information regarding the individuals who vandalized Midway Presbyterian Church on Midway Road can notify the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office at 260-4400, via Facebook or can call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

A reward will be offered for information that leads to the arrest of the individual(s) who vandalized this church.

The windows in this church were over 125 years old.

Church members were seen Sunday afternoon checking the damage and securing plastic sheeting that had been put over the broken windows prior to Sunday's thunderstorms.
