GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A man working on a South Carolina road has died after he was electrocuted during a repaving project.

The Greenville County coroner's office said 48-year-old Marty Dale Whitmire of Liberty was operating a piece of machinery about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Coroner Parks Evans told local media outlets that it appears a dump truck clipped a power line, causing the pole to crack. Evans says the power line then dropped onto Whitmire, killing him.

The man was working for King Asphalt Inc., which has offices in Liberty and Simpsonville.

The death is still under investigation.
