New doc trails chef Ducasse on global quest for new flavors

NEW YORK (AP) — A new documentary depicts the constant travels of French super-chef Alain Ducasse, who crisscrosses the globe as he samples new flavors for his always-expanding food empire.

"The Quest of Alain Ducasse" will appeal to foodies with a taste for haute cuisine with a healthy twist, though it suffers from some overly adoring narration.

The film spends about two years trailing Ducasse on trips from everywhere to Japan to Brazil to the Gobi desert in Mongolia, looking for inspiration for his empire of 27 restaurants.

Ducasse is still expanding. He opened a gourmet eatery at Versailles in 2016, which offers meals up to 1,000 euros, and he will launch a restaurant on an electric boat along the Seine river in Paris in the fall.
