Pedestrian hit and killed in North Carolina's largest city

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A man has been struck and killed by a hit and run driver in North Carolina's largest city.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokeswoman Cindy Wallace said in a news release that a man was hit by an SUV around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The man's name has not been released while relatives are notified.

A witness told police a white SUV ran a red light and struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the SUV was last seen moving south of Interstate 85. It has damage on the left side of the vehicle.
