WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — UNC Wilmington says it has been approved to establish a dual degree program between the school and a university in China.

A news release from the school says UNCW is one of a handful of institutions of higher education approved to offer joint programs in a variety of academic disciplines by the Chinese Ministry of Education. UNCW will team with Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences.

More than 500 universities worldwide submitted proposals with their partner institutions in China.

Beginning this fall, UNCW and CUAS will offer a 3+1 degree program in mathematics to CUAS students. Students will spend three years at their home institution focused on mathematics and data science. They'll begin their final year at UNCW, where they will continue their studies and sharpen their academic English skills.
