AU Moves Commencement Indoors

Threat of rain prompts venue change

May 09, 2019 - 10:33 am

ANDERSON, SC – With rain in the weekend forecast, Anderson University’s commencement ceremonies will move indoors this year, school officials announced today.

Commencement for graduate students will take place on Friday, May 10, at 6 p.m. in Anderson University’s Henderson Auditorium. Commencement for undergraduates is on Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m. at NewSpring Church, located at 2940 Concord Road in Anderson.

Anderson University typically holds graduation ceremonies outdoors. While forecasts are subject to change, the logistics and planning involved require decisions to be made well in advance, said Anderson University Provost Dr. Ryan Neal.

“Spring commencement at Anderson University is a highly anticipated event, with students, families and friends gathering on Alumni Lawn to celebrate the accomplishments of their loved ones," Dr. Neal said. “However, with rain likely on Friday and Saturday, it is prudent and logical to move both commencement ceremonies to our indoor alternative venues.”

Commencement is meant to celebrate the achievements of the 571 Anderson University students who have completed degree requirements. Of those, 98 are receiving graduate degrees, and 473 are receiving a bachelor's degree.

Steve Nail, dean of the Anderson University College of Business, is the speaker for graduate commencement, and Lee Sowell, president/group president of the Outdoor Products Group for Techtronics Industries, is the speaker for undergraduate commencement.

For those unable to attend the ceremonies, Anderson University will offer a livestream of both graduation services. Details are available at
