Wednesday morning, Ingles opened up their new store in Powdersville. Built alongside the existing location, this store is the first of it's kind in the Upstate.

It boasts a Starbucks, expanded cafe area, in-house sushi chef and so much more.

I was given a tour of the store and I can say first hand that it is impressive. The aisles are much wider than before, the store offers energy savings with loads of natural light as well as all coolers being shut at all times.

They also offer one of the largest craft beer selections I have seen in a grocery store.

With the expansion comes a need for more employees, and the job impact the new store has on the Powdersville area is impressive.

Advertising Director Melissa Leavell told me that the new store "doubled the amount of employees" and they now employee 350 people. She also mentioned that they have 75 job openings currently for both full-time and part-time positions.

A key thing that I noticed is that they offered a large amount of locally grown produce.

Ingles sources a large amount of their produce from local farmers. Businesses helping local businesses is always a welcome sight.

Another aspect of the store that caught my eye was the wing bar.

The wing bar is next to the salad bar, fruit bar, and olive bar. Leavell tells me that shoppers can build their own wing trays for parties and other events.

As a company, Ingles owns all of their own shopping centers. This new store is build in the shopping center next to the existing one and the existing one will become shopping space for other "anchor" stores such as Ace Hardware.

While this is the first of this format of Ingles in the area, they aren't stopping at one. There are plans to revamp or rebuild most every other store in the Upstate.
