Nowadays it seems like every little group or subject has its own awareness month. Never mind there are only 12 months in the year.

And one of the groups that has claimed May as its own month is the League of American Bicyclists.

That’s why all through May, or National Bike Month as they’re dubbing it, there will be events all around Grenville, in an attempt to reach out to the biking community as well as to invite newcomers to the sport.

Here’s a list of some events and group rides around the area:

May 7: Tyke Night – help your little one learn the basic skills of biking, along with games for kids and beers for the parents. For kids 4 and under, bike and helmet required.

May 8: Bike to School Day – check with your school to see if they’re participating with a group ride

May 11-12: Bike to Artisphere – avoid the hassle of parking by taking a trip down the Swamp Rabbit Trail right into the heart of downtown.

May 18: Cinnamon Bun Group Ride – enjoy the company of others of all ages on a ride to Furman and back, and end the right with a tasty cinnamon bun.

May 23: Upstate Short Track Kids Night – head to Gateway Park in Traveler’s Rest for different races for all age groups and experience levels. $10 for kids, $20 for adults.
