I can confirm that at approximately 8:20 this morning a bus driver noticed smoke and small flames coming from rear engine.  The driver pulled over and shut off the bus near the intersection of Bonnie Brea and Sandy Lane.

The fire immediately went out.  As a precaution the driver evacuated the 29 Southside High School students on board.  The fire department and EMS responded.

No one was injured.  A spare bus took the students to school.  They arrived at Southside just after 9am.  Parents of the students on board the bus are being notified.

The driver followed protocol.  We are appreciate his quick action and appropriate response during a stressful situation.
