Carry the Load’ Drive to Benefit Upstate Foster Kids Donations Accepted at all Greenville City Fire Departments from May 20-23

In celebration of May being Foster Care Awareness Month, the Riley Institute’s Diversity Leaders Initiative at Furman University and the Greenville City Fire Department are partnering with Fostering Great Ideas® to improve the experiences of foster children throughout the Upstate through the “Carry the Load” collection drive.

The Problem:

The reality is that many foster children move from one house to the next transporting their possessions in trash bags, which compounds the stress these kids endure.

The Solution:

Donations of Carry-On Sized Luggage, Handbags, Large Duffle Bags, Diapers, and Tax-Deductible Contributions will help these children transition from place to place and minimize the uncertainty that may follow. This project provides dignity and self-confidence to these youngsters throughout their journey.

You Can Help in Two (2) Ways:

1. Beginning Monday, May 20th, through Thursday, May 23rd, community members can drop-off these items at ANY Greenville City Fire Department Station located at:

• Station 1 - Verdae Station 825 Verdae Boulevard

• Station 2 - West End Station 125 North Leach Street

• Station 3 - Augusta Road Station 2101 Augusta Street

• Station 4 - Stone Avenue Station 880 East Stone Avenue

• Station 5 - Pleasantburg Station 15 Waite Street

• Station 6 - Eastside Station 14 Pelham Road

• Station 7 - North Main Station 801 Rutherford Road

2. Tax-Deductible donations can also be made at the Fostering Great Ideas® website: https://fgi4kids.org/donate

“Our organization is focused on improving the experiences for every child in foster care,” said David White, CEO and Founder of Fostering Great Ideas®. “Something as simple as having a suitcase for moving or a handbag for personal items makes a significant, personal impact on the dignity and self-confidence of a young person.

“This Carry the Load effort is an important community initiative that supports the healing process for children in foster care. Combining this effort with more foster families and caring volunteers to mentor, tutor, and advocate reform will make all the difference for the children. We can get you involved."

All donations of money and useable items of Carry-On Sized Luggage, Handbags, Large Duffle Bags, and Diapers received during the Carry the Load collection drive will directly benefit Upstate foster children.
