At stake in Tuesday’s primary election for Greenville’s City Council is the spot to run as a Democrat against incumbent Republican George Fletcher for his City Council At-Large seat.

Seeing as there is no Republican running to oppose Fletcher, the Democrats will be the only primary elections on Tuesday.

Two candidates are vying for the spot: Lindsey Jacobs and Dorothy Dowe.

Jacobs, the younger candidate, is focusing her campaign on issues of dealing with gentrification, increased investment in affordable housing and transportation, and achieving what she calls “sustainable, equitable growth.”

Dowe, for her part, is stressing her “in-depth record of proven leadership,” while also focusing on issues of affordable housing for all incomes levels, supporting public transportation, and “responsibly managing Greenville’s growth by weighing short-term advantages versus long-term benefits.”

The polls open at 7am Tuesday and close at 7pm.
