After years of planning and delays, a new hub for food and shopping is set to open this year.

Back when it was first announced in 2015, the developers behind the transformation of an empty warehouse located on the banks of the Reedy River planned to have the place open to the public by 2018.

But now, after some delays and a long period of silence on the part of the developers, they now are certain, they say, that the 20,000 square foot food and retail space located at 147 Welborn Street will open its doors this year.

The Commons, as its long been called, will feature nine tenants, of which five are food related.

All are local Greenville businesses, and include a brewpub, a coffee shop, a bakery, a taco shop, and a relocated GB&D restaurant.

Other tenants include a real estate group, a tech incubator, a marketing firm, and a clothing store.

Developers of The Commons say the entire location should be open by September.
