Do you know someone who goes above and beyond in the community to advocate for a better environment and a healthier community?

Nominations are now being accepted for Community Star awards that spotlight South Carolina’s advocates for a better world in those categories..  It's through the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).

They are looking for people who go above and beyond environmental requirements to build stronger community relationships, promote environmental sustainability and resiliency, and improve the quality of life in communities around the state.  Anyone can nominate a business, community organization, collaborative partnership or individual now through August 1.

“Our Community Stars exemplify DHEC’s vision of ‘healthy people living in healthy communities,’” said Myra Reece, Director of Environmental Affairs. “We are proud to recognize the people, businesses and partnerships that demonstrate the value of environmental stewardship, public health education and going above and beyond to work with their surrounding communities.”

If you would like to nominate, you can find the form on-line at DHEC.

Winners of the 2019 Community Star awards will be announced at DHEC’s Environmental Assistance Conference to be held later this year.

Last year’s winners were Brandon Burke, who was selected for his work with families and communities impacted by childhood cancer, and Santee Cooper, which was recognized in part for its multiple community engagement initiatives.
