The Greenville County Council on Tuesday evening unanimously approved a resolution asking Sheriff Will Lewis to resign his position.

The resolution was passed at a special meeting called after Lewis admitted last week to a "consensual encounter" with former employee Savanah Nabors who has alleged he sexually assaulted her. She filed a lawsuit againt Lewis on October 16th.

The council said it no longer has confidence and trust in the sheriff's moral judgement, which is essential in leading the personnel under his command and carrying out his duties and responsibilities of providing protection to Greenville citizens.

On Wednesday, Sheriff Lewis released this statement

“As previously stated, I remain committed to handling this matter in the proper forum and in the proper manner as required by law.  Therefore, I will make no further comments on this matter until the final resolution of the SLED investigation.”
