The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office issued the following release Monday morning:

This morning (Monday) at approx. 3:15 AM, deputies responded to 303 Sunnyglenn Dr., Greer, SC, in reference to a domestic violence with weapons call.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke to the female, who was upset and crying, at a neighbor’s residence. She pointed towards her residence and informed deputies the suspect, her husband, was leaving in a dark colored Chevrolet Impala.

Deputies got behind the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the suspect refused and then pulled into another driveway on Sunnyglenn Dr. The suspect exited that vehicle with a rifle in his hand and fired it several times.

The suspect then took off running, and as deputies closed in on him, the suspect started raising the rifle again, and one of our deputies fired several times, striking the suspect in the hand. The suspect threw the rifle down and fell down an embankment, where he was taken into custody without any further incident.

The suspect was transported to the hospital for treatment of his hand injury, and this agency immediately notified the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), as is our protocol in all officer involved shootings.

From interviewing the victim, we have charged the suspect with Domestic Violence – Second Degree, and our warrant will be served on him once he is released from the hospital.

The suspect is Richard Derrick Cline, B/M, DOB: 080583, 303 Sunnyglenn Dr., Greer, SC, 29651.  This agency is sincerely thankful that victim and a juvenile inside the residence weren’t severely injured, as well as all of our deputies that were involved.
