Duke Energy and Clemson University are partnering to bring more renewable energy to the campus.

The first coordination between the two will be the development and installation of a solar panel-covered canopy over the R-3 parking lot near Memorial Stadium.  That lot is southwest of the stadium between Perimeter Road and Centennial Boulevard.

Duke will lease that space.  Not only will be panels provide shade for cars, but it should generate enough electricity to power about a third of the stadium.  LED security lighting will also be provided, along with chargers for electric vehicles in some of the spaces.

Clemson has a goal of becoming carbon neutral by the year 2030 and this project helps get closer to that goal.
