In this week's edition of the WORD Cover Story, I take a look at the standards and practices of South Carolina's standardized testing policies. Are they effective? Why does the Palmetto State rank so low nationwide? How do they approach students who are new to the country and do not speak the language yet? These questions and more will be answered.

I spoke with representatives from both the state and district level to find out the mindset of each division.

First up Ryan Brown from the South Carolina Department of Education.

After speaking with Brown I was very curious to see if things at the district level lined up with how Brown was saying they should. I met with Dr. Jason McCreary, the Director of Assessment and Quality Assurance for Greenville County Schools, to find out how things were in Greenville County.

To me, it seems like a lot of improvements could be made. Stay logged on to 1063word.com as I will be meeting with a teacher in the coming days to see how things are in a real world application.
