Firemen are currently on the scene of a fire at Hawks Motorsports in the 900 block of Pelzer Highway..

Officials say no one was injured..Authorities said fire suppression operations were ongoing and would probably continue overnight. They are working with DHEC to control oil contaminants at the scene..

The cause of the fire is unkown

“This fire was extremely dangerous to our personnel, but I am proud of the work of the professional firefighters.  There were no injuries as a result of the fire, for which we are extremely thankful.” said Fire Chief Butch Womack.

It took over 50 firefighters and emergency services personnel from eight Pickens County Fire Stations, Pickens County Hazmat Team, Anderson County Hazmat Team, Pickens County Emergency Management, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, Easley Police Department, Pickens County EMS, Pickens County Building and Codes, Pickens County Stormwater Management, Pickens County Roads and Bridges, SC Law Enforcement Division, SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), approximately five hours to bring the fire under control.

“This is an example of how our community comes together to respond during emergencies.”

Residents are encouraged to avoid Pelzer Highway between Pope Field Road and Zion Church Roads for the next few hours as Pelzer Highway remains blocked.  Firefighters and investigators will remain on scene for awhile as they work to extinguish hot spots and to determine and origin and cause.  The investigation is a normal practice for any structure fire we respond to.
