The solicitor's office confirmed Thursday that a grand jury returned indictments for criminal charges against a high school teacher in connection with the sexual battery of a student.

Greenville County Deputies said they began an investigation into 38-year-old Erickson Lamar Bynum after allegations were made regarding sexual relations with a student in August 2015.

Bynum was placed on leave May 3, 2016 when the allegation was brought forth. Bynum served as a substitute teacher in 2005, and as a full-time English teacher in 2006.

According to arrest warrants, Bynum is accused of performing oral sex on a 16-year-old student multiple times in his classroom during the first and second semester of the 2015-2016 school year.

Deputies said Bynum also attempted to sexually assault two other 17-year-old students off campus.

Bynum was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and battery and one count of sexual battery with a student following his arrest in 2016.
