The Greenville County Sheriff's Office issued the following press release Wednesday.

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office have obtained a warrant on 68 year-old, Peter William Cooper for committing a lewd act upon a child less than 14 years of age.

Investigators received information from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office in late January regarding Cooper’s unlawful sexual contact with an underage female, while he was working as a youth pastor for Central Church of Christ.

Investigators learned that a victim suffered the inappropriate contact in Greenville County at the Palmetto Bible Camp, located at 140 Fall Creek Road, in Marietta, during a period between 1976 and 1978.

Due to Cooper’s involvement with youth, investigators ask for anyone who might have suffered similar experiences with Cooper to call Crime Stoppers of Greenville at 23-CRIME.

Cooper is currently in the Spartanburg County Detention Center for charges related to offenses occurring in their jurisdiction.

The date and time of Cooper’s arraignment in Greenville County is not yet determined.
