Greenville Police Send A Weekend Reminder

About the use of golf carts on roads

As summer approaches, law enforcement officers are reminding South Carolina residents of the state's updated golf cart laws. 

Greenville Police said children under the age of 16 account for one-third of all golf cart injuries in the nation. Before the start of the holiday weekend, the Greenville police are reminding resident’s restrictions on golf carts.

  • You must be at least 16-years-old to operate a golf cart. 
  • Golf carts can only be driven during daylight hours.
  • Owners need a permit from the DMV in order to drive the cart on public roads.
  • Drivers must have registration, liability insurance, and a driver's license on them while operating the golf cart.Law enforcement officers emphasized that it is illegal to drink alcohol on a golf cart.

You can still be charged with DUI or open container while operating a golf cart.
