Hanshaw named Simpsonville Police Chief

Simpsonville City Council has voted to promote Interim Chief Mike Hanshaw to Chief of Police. 

Captain Hanshaw has 20 years of experience in law enforcement and has worked through the ranks of the Simpsonville Police Department.

Chief Mike Hanshaw started his law enforcement career in 1997 as a Patrol Officer with the Simpsonville Police Department. While on Uniform Patrol, he worked his way through the ranks and was promoted to Sergeant. In 2005, he transferred to Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division. After 8 years in the division, he was promoted to Sergeant over the Criminal Investigations Division. 

In 2014, Hanshaw was promoted to the position of Operations Captain, serving as the Commander of the Uniform Patrol Division. As Operations Captain, he commanded the largest portion of the department which includes supervising 1 Lieutenant, 26 Uniformed Patrol officers, 1 Animal Control officer, 8 dispatchers and 2 Reserve officers. 

Additionally, Chief Hanshaw previously served as the Commander and team leader with the Police Departments Special Response Team. He is also a state certified firearms instructor through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Other certifications include Shoot House Instructor and Specific Skills Instructor.
