Deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office say they have recovered more than $200,000 worth of stolen goods, all hidden in an underground tunnel system on some land in Piedmont.

Deputies say they were searching a 4-acre plot of land, this around the 600 block of Looperville Road, when they discovered what they’re calling a “sophisticated network of underground tunnels.”

According to a news release, the good in question included construction equipment, transport trailers, vehicles, power tools, and other construction materials, all of which had been stolen from various individuals in and around the Upstate and the Midlands.

They’re now trying to get the stolen goods back into the hands of their rightful owners.

Deputies have a 25-year-old man in custody and are waiting for issues charges after a full warrant has been issued. It’s unclear how the police were tipped off about the underground tunnels.
