Greenville Police Officer Nikki Morton was injured in the line of duty on December 22nd of last year when trying to arrest Wallace McKinnon on an outstanding warrant for assault and battery. During what thought to be an ordinary arrest, McKinnon became highly agitated and hit Officer Morton.

Morton underwent surgery Christmas Eve for a broken jaw and will be in recovery for several long and painful weeks.

Public Information Officer Donnie Porter with the Greenville Police Department says she’s in good spirits and healing well.

During the lengthy process two owners of a local gym, Crossfit Potentia, wanted to assist Officer Morton during her recovery by hosting a benefit workout this Saturday from 8:30am until the last person can’t work out any further.

As for the suspect, Wallace McKinnon, Donnie Porter with the GPD tells me Mr. McKinnon is still being held on a $15,000 bond in Greenville County Detention Center.
