The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Townville man this morning on charges of Disturbing Schools.

40 year old William Jared Richardson of Woolbright Circle was taken into custody by deputies from the Sheriff’s Office after the incident and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center.  He has yet to be booked into jail.

According to an investigator from the Criminal Investigations Division, at around 7:15am this morning, a school bus was on Earles Grove Road in the Earles Grove Community that was headed to Fair-Oak Elementary School.

Around the 500 block of Earles Grove Road, Richardson reportedly ran in front of the school bus in an attempt to get on the bus.  The bus driver hit the brakes to avoid hitting Richardson and also due to the fact that Richardson reportedly had an object in his hand that the driver perceived to be a weapon.

The bus driver then proceeded on; however, Richardson grabbed a hold of the mirror near the doors to the schools while the bus was going down the road in an attempt to gain entry.

A couple of citizens observed what was going on and were able to detain Richardson until deputies arrived on the scene.

There were no injuries either to the driver or any students on the school bus and according to the investigator; the bus did eventually proceed on to the school.

Richardson has also been charged with Breach of Peace, Aggravated in Nature.

Also, Richardson has been placed on Trespass Notice from all School District of Oconee County schools, according to the investigator.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the citizens who provided assistance to our deputies regarding the incident this morning.
