A Laurens County man has been arrested after deputies say he led them on a chase and jumped into Lake Greenwood to evade capture.

Laurens Deputies say they were called to a campground near Lake Greenwood because someone was using the shower facilities without permission.

Campground employees gave investigators the tag number of the unwanted suspect’s vehicle and deputies say the vehicle came back stolen.

Once deputies arrived on scene they discovered the suspect gone but another deputy found the vehicle on Highway 29 but the driver refused to stop which led deputies to disable the vehicle near Lake Greenwood.

Deputies say Jerry James Brown then jumped off the bridge into the lake. Once again he disobeyed orders to come out of the water and then DNR was called to the scene but before DNR could arrive a citizen let deputies use their boat to take Brown into custody without further incident.

Brown was booked into the Johnson Detention Center for failure to stop for a blue light and other charges including the unlawful carrying of a firearm.
