Saturday, there will be a demonstration in downtown Greenville that is part of a nationwide event called March for Our Lives. This movement was orginially started by a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School following the shooting in February.

The permit for the Greenville event has been approved by city officials and it will take place from 2-4 p.m. and begins at the corner of North Main and Beattie Place.

According to the Facebook Page dedicated to the Greenville march, the event "does not support an increase in gun ownership and distribution as a solution to gun violence and school safety" and that "In the tragic wake of the seventeen lives brutally cut short in Florida, politicians are telling us that now is not the time to talk about guns. March For Our Lives believes the time is now."

Roads are scheduled to be closed for the event starting around 1 p.m.

According to the March for Our Lives website, there is a similar event scheduled in Anderson on South Main Street.
