CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson football fans will have to pass through metal detectors this season at the Tigers' football stadium.

The school said Wednesday it was starting a pilot program of walk-through detectors set up at select gates this season.

The location of the metal detectors will rotate throughout the season.

Clemson officials say the effort is to "ensure Memorial Stadium is the safest possible venue" going forward.

At each game, the athletic department will gather safety and operational data it hopes can streamline getting into the 80,000-seat stadium.

School officials say that fans with medical conditions or are uncomfortable going through metal detectors can talk to stadium personal and undergo an alternative screening process to go inside.
