An Upstate mother has been arrested and charged after the remains of her newborn were found at a Fountain Inn apartment complex on Monday.

Police said 41-year-old Jamie Melissa Wilson said the baby was born around October of 2016. She told police the baby had stopped breathing after birth and instead of seeking medical attention, she concealed the body within a hoodie, inside a trash bag, inside a tote.

Officials say Wilson has been charged with homicide by child abuse or neglect and is currently behind bars at the Laurens County Detention Center.

Police confirm Wilson has two other children, a 21-year-old and a 5-year-old who was living in the apartment. The 5-year-old was taken by DSS at the time of the eviction on Monday.

The investigation continues.
