Rhonetta Sheres Thomas did not hold back when addressing her daughter’s alleged murderer in court on Wednesday.

“You took the only life that actually loved you and cared about you,” she said to Deltravious Daquandra Howard, the 20-year-old man who was charged with shooting Jayla Thomas Smith and dumping her body on the side of the road in February.

Howard was denied bond at that court appearance. He had been wanted for the murder until turning himself in to police on Tuesday.

Jayla’s mother Rhonetta asked Howard why he did it, but Howard had no response.

Rhonetta then told him, “I don’t ever want to see you walk the earth again. I want you to get the lethal injection.”

She said she had nothing but hate for the Howard family as a whole too, accusing them of sheltering him when they knew he had killed her daughter.

Howard’s brother Delgardo, who smiled in his mugshot, was arrested last week for lying to investigators on four occasions in attempts to cover up his brother’s involvement in Jayla’s death. He was released on a $25,000 bond.
