The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man over the weekend on drug and stolen goods charges.

44 year old Alex Claude Sheriff of Snow Creek Road was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 3:01pm Sunday.

Sheriff was picked up by deputies at the Snow Creek Road address on a warrants service for two outstanding warrants on charges of Giving False Information and  Receiving Stolen  Goods.  A search of  his person after Sheriff was arrested produced a quantity of narcotics.  Sheriff has also been charged with one count of Possession of  Methamphetamine and two  counts of Possession of a Controlled  Substance.

The two outstanding warrants against Sheriff stem from an investigation into a vehicle break-in that occurred at an address on Kimball Lane near Walhalla that was  reported to the  Sheriff’s Office the  morning of August 20th in which items were taken from the vehicle, including an electronics item and tools.

Based upon evidence gathered as a result of the investigation, deputies charged 23 year old Justin O’Neal Justus of West Union and 30 year old Leslie Spearman Harvey of  Walhalla with  one count of  Receiving Stolen Goods in relation to the case.  Both subjects were booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on September 9th.

The Sheriff’s Office also charged a family member of Sheriff in the investigation based upon false information that Sheriff provided to our deputies.  The family member of  Sheriff was  not placed in  handcuffs and was not booked into the Oconee County Detention Center and the warrant obtained against the family member was recalled after deputies interviewed the  family member. Sheriff  used the  family members name when identifying himself as a part of the investigation.

Sheriff was given a combined $2,590.00 surety bond on the Giving False Information and Receiving Stolen Goods charges.  Bond on Sheriff has yet to be set on the three drug charges.
