A new bill calls into question Trump’s tariffs, against the wishes of South Carolina manufacturers.

South Carolina Democratic representative Joe Cunningham has just introduced a bill that would give Congress the authority to review tariffs.

This comes despite pushback from South Carolina manufacturers.

A collection of South Carolina business leaders came out to oppose the new legislation, which they say hurts America’s bargaining power in the ongoing trade dispute with China.

Leaders from International Plastics,  Aalberts material technology, and other producers in the Palmetto state say that while the short-term impact of the trade dispute it not ideal, they are necessary to stop China from continuing its practices of IP theft, currency manipulation, cyber hacking and industrial espionage.

“China is stealing the future,” said Senator Tim Scott in response to the legislation. “We must do everything we can to preserve and protect American innovation and jobs.”

According to the state’s largest manufacturers, they would appear to agree.

The president has not yet responded to the legislation.
