Compensation For College Athletes

This week a California bill was passed which allows college athletes in the state to earn compensation for the use of their likeness, sign endorsement deals and hire agents to represent them.

This, of course, is in stark contrast with NCAA policy. But it signals a possible sea change in how athletes can be compensated, and here in South Carolina, a similar bill has just been reintroduced.

For this week's edition of the 106.3 WORD Cover Story, ESPN Upstate’s Will Palaszczuk, spoke with State Senator Marlon Kimpson about the bill's goals, the motivations behind the bill and the shifting culture of college athletics as a whole.
