A warning now for those suffering from breathing issues.

Health officials in South Carolina are sounding the alarm on poor air quality in the Upstate this week.

Officials with the Department of Health and Environmental Control have issued an ozone alert as of Monday, which means that those with breathing concerns such as asthma and respiratory ailments would do well to keep their outdoor activity down to a minimum.

Health officials also issued a blanket statement warning for young children and the elderly.

The ozone pollutant is specifically a result of exhaust build-up in the atmosphere, usually from a combination of vehicles and manufacturing plants, which gets worse during particularly hot and sunny days.
