A suspected bank robber in Union County is now behind bars.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office announced they had arrested a man who had been armed with a long butcher knife when he robbed the Arthur State Bank on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect, 51-year-old Frank Mills, was picked up by officers within eight hours of the robbery.

Mills allegedly entered the bank around 2:36 pm. Deputies arrived on the scene just two minutes later.

By then Mills had managed to flee with some cash toward an area where parents were waiting to pick up kids from School.

The school was placed on lockdown.

Later it was revealed Mills allegedly fled in a car parked at a car wash across the street from the bank.

Surveillance footage led to the arrest of Mills, along with additional evidence.

He’s now charged with armed robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and is currently awaited a bond hearing.
