A critical vote on the billion dollar County Square redevelopment project was scheduled for Monday's Greenville City Council meeting, but there's a change on the agenda::

The vote had been on the Greenville City Council's agenda for the Monday meeting, but the vote has now been delayed until after the first of the year.

The 37 acre redevelopment project along University Ridge is at the center of a debate over commercial development in Greenville's West End and the construction of affordable housing in the area in the downtown area.

The property is owned by the county, but being inside the city limits is at the mercy of the City of Greenville's zoning ordinances which currently do not allow for the construction of buildings over six stories tall in that area.

Following the announcement of the delayed vote, a Joint Statement on County Square was released from County Council Chair Butch Kirven and Greenville Mayor Knox White.

In the statement, both the City and County say they would like to process the feedback and take time to thoroughly review and address important issues such as affordable housing, connectivity and scale.

Both the City and the County say they are committed to being inclusive and transparent and anticipate being able to resolve any outstanding issues in the near future. ?
