Tuesday's vote was the final contest in a series of primaries and special elections set into motion by former State Senator William Timmons resigning his seat after winning the 4th Congresssional District seat in the US House of Representatives in November.  The former occupant of the House District 19 seat, Dwight Loftis, was then elected to the State Senate District 6 seat in March.
