Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder

A verbal altercation ended with charges for attempted murder.

Spartanburg County Deputies responded to a shooting on Farley Avenue August 4th.  Once on scene they found a male victim shot once in the leg, injuries non-life threatening. 

The suspect, Christopher Duran Geter, fled the scene before the Deputies arrived.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred in the presence of witnesses and several children. 

The suspect was arrested Friday and charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and other charges.   

After appearing before a magistrate, Geter's bond was denied and he remains in custody at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

On August 4, 2020, at approx. 6:30 PM, deputies responded to a shooting at 793 Farley Ave., Spartanburg, SC, 29301.

Upon arrival, they located a male victim who had suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

That victim and several witnesses all identified the suspect and informed the incident resulted from the victim and suspect having a verbal disagreement.

Both parties agreed to fight, but the suspect then produced a weapon and discharged it several times, striking victim once in the leg.

The shooting also occurred in the presence of the witnesses and several children.

The suspect had already fled the scene prior to the deputies’ arrival, and initial efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.

After interviewing all parties, a violent crimes investigator discussed the case with a magistrate judge, who approved the following warrants on the suspect:  Attempted Murder, Pointing and Presenting a Firearm. Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.  

The suspect is Christopher Duran Geter. He was arrested approx.  2 hours ago and is currently incarcerated at the detention facility, where he will appear before a magistrate later today for bond arraignment.
