In a time where toilet paper is hard to come by (who would have ever thought) due to COVID-19, folks may be having to use alternative material to keep their bums clean.

(Apparently the Simpsonville Public Works Department is is seeing some strange items flow through the pipes?)

A press release from the City of Simpsonville is reminding the public to avoid flushing anything other than toilet paper down the toilet.

This includes paper towels, wipes that do not specifically state on packaging that they are flushable and other paper products.

Public Works Director Andy West said that failure to comply could result in sewer backups and overflows.

You know where those backups and overflows could show up?  In your front yard, and we're pretty sure you don't want to have to deal with that.  Not to mention the public health concern.

If you have any questions, you can contact Public Works at 864-967-9531, leave a meassage at 864-967-9526 ext. 303 or call 964-967-9526 ext. 307

Official City of Simpsonville Press Release below:

Simpsonville, S.C. — With the potential for shortages in toilet paper during the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 global pandemic, the Simpsonville Public Works Department is reminding the public to avoid using items in lieu of toilet paper that are not safe for sewers.

The public is asked to not flush wipes, paper towels or other paper products in toilets. Toilet paper is the only sewer-safe product that can enter the sewer system.

“Failure to follow these guidelines can result in sewer backups and overflows,” Public Works Director Andy West said. “Backups and overflows cause property damage, endanger the environment and create a public health concern.”

Anyone with sewer issues can reach Public Works by calling 864-967-9531 between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. or public safety dispatch at 864-967-9536 after hours.
