Officials said Greenville Water was the target of an international cyber-attack.

In a press release, the water company stated that the attack caused technical difficulties and inconveniences but "has not and will not impact or compromise the safety and delivery of water that is treated and maintained by our facilities."

Greenville Water CEO David Bereskin also said that they had prepared for potential attack like this and that they are confident that all data remained safe.

He said that business operations are expected to return to normal in the next two to three business days.

"Knowing there has been surge in cyber-attacks against state and local governments, Greenville Water plans on sharing information about the attack with other government agencies in the area to help them gain a better understanding of how the attack occurred," Bereskin said in the press release.

Greenville Water is in contact with local and state authorities regarding the attack and will release any additional information when available.
