A Greenville man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter after a 2018 shooting that left his brother dead.

Thirteenth Circuit Court Solicitor Walt Wilkins made the announcement on Tuesday.

A press release from Wilkins’ office stated that 56-year-old Alim Muhammad Banks and his brother, William McKinney, were in an argument on February 26, 2018, when things got heated between the two.

A physical altercation ensued, during which Banks reportedly asked a witness to call the police because he was “about to kill” him.

Not long after that announcement, Banks pulled out a gun and shot McKinney in the chest.

Banks never denied that he shot his brother. He pleaded guilty before the judge and was given an 18-year sentence.
