Official News Release from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office:

(Walhalla, SC)---The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has concluded the police action on South Abbott Road near Walhalla.

Deputies were dispatched to a call for service at 11:53am this morning at an address on South Abbott Road regarding reports of a domestic disturbance and an assault involving a man and a woman. 

The man barricaded himself inside of the residence. 

The woman, who reportedly was assaulted, was not in the residence while the male subject was barricaded.

The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was activated and a command post was set up. 

South Abbott Road was blocked off from Coffee Road all the way down to the incident location. 

Deputies attempted to make contact with the male subject and earlier, the subject did communicate with a family member via text.  

Another family member also attempted to reach out to the subject but those communications were not answered. 

According to deputies, there was information that the subject has access to weapons.

As a precaution, James M. Brown Elementary School was placed on a Code Yellow.

Units from the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team made entry into the residence around 5:10pm today. 

Upon entry, deputies located the subject, who was unconscious and Narcan was administered by deputies to the subject. 

Paramedics and a doctor, who are part of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and were on standby, made entry to administer medical care.

The subject was transported to the hospital for treatment. 

Due to that fact, his name will not be released at this time until he is released and taken into custody to be served an arrest warrant from the Sheriff’s Office.
