It’s official!  Deputy Thor has been sworn in as The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office newest member.  He’s quite beautiful too, this yellow lab now holds the title Tracking and Explosives Canine.

Accompanied by his handler Deputy Justin Stokes, he and Thor both completed their required training and are ready to serve the citizens of Oconee County.

We're pretty sure he's gonna be paid in dog treats.

Official release from the Sheriff's Office and photos below:

On August 21st, 2019 the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office held a swearing in ceremony for our newest Deputy, a tracking and explosives canine, Thor.

Thor is a male yellow lab and is the same canine that the Oconee County Sheriff’s Foundation sponsored the “name the dog” contest for back in May.

He was accompanied today by his handler, Deputy Justin Stokes. Deputy Stokes and Thor have both completed their required training and are ready to serve the citizens in our county.

After Thor received his badge, our retired canine handlers received plaques commemorating their dog’s service to Oconee County. Corporal Derek Pace, Corporal Roy McKenzie, and Lieutenant Jim Stokes each received a plaque for their dedication as a canine handler for the Sheriff’s Office.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is looking forward to the community having the opportunity to meet and interact with Thor, as well as Thor’s continued service to all Oconee County Citizens. Law enforcement animals help to protect our officers as well as making our county a safer place to live.
