Get ready to shop, sales tax free!

The SC Sales Tax Holiday kicks off Friday, August 7th.

The 72 hour event will allow South Carolinians to purchase computers, clothes, school supplies and other items free of the 6% state sales tax.

The event ends Sunday, August 9th.

According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue website, "Last year, South Carolina shoppers bought more than $21.7 million in tax-free items during the Sales Tax Holiday. "

Just a reminder, items that are NOT sales tax free during the weekend include: digital cameras, smartphones, jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, wallets, watches, furniture, rental clothing or footwear, and items for use in a trade or business.

Other tips from the SCDOR:

- online purchases of eligible items are tax free too

- continue best practices during COVID-19, check with retailers about online purchases, delivery and curb side pick-up.

- practice social distancing while shopping in-store
