Park officials announced Friday that all state parks across the state of South Carolina will be closed starting Saturday through April 30th.

"The closure is designed to keep visitors and employees as safe as possible by mitigating the spread of the coronavirus," park officials said in a press release.

The update is also posted on the south carolina state parks website.

In the release, they stated that people who are already on campsites and in cabins are allowed to remain there through the remainder of their rental time, but they must adhere to the state's social distancing recommendations.

New reservations arrivals through this closure will be turned away, however. Those whose reservations are cancelled will receive a refund, park officials said.

Public areas in parks, such as picnic grounds, trails and lakefronts, have also been closed through April 30th.
