An 11-year-old boy who’d been missing since Sunday was found by a particularly alert bus driver and bus driver’s aid, who are now being hailed for their heroic quick thinking.

According to deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, 11-year-old Kenny Levern Newell disappeared on Sunday.

Around 7:45 am on Monday, bus driver Carlos, who has been driving for Greenville County Schools for four years, and Carlos’ bus aid Linda, who has been riding alongside Carlos for the past two years, were on their regular route on the special needs bus.

That’s when they recognized the missing boy Kenny on the side of the road.

As Linda told deputies, they both knew right away what they had to do.

“Well we have a good rapport,” Linda said. “We talk every morning, so we talk about the things that we need to do on the bus to prepare for our kids once they get on, because we have many special needs kids. So in the process this morning I said I saw on the news last night where a kid was missing. He said yes I saw that also. So never would have imagined that we would find this kid riding on our road this morning, but we did. And we did what we thought was best.”

Linda and Carlos were able to convinced Kenny to come aboard their bus and they took him to safety.

Kenny is now reportedly at home, safe and sound.
