A man who has served his community for more than four decades is being honored this week.

Lynn Pittman has racked up many, many miles during his 41 years as a school bus driver in Spartanburg.

Generations of parents have entrusted their children to Pittman since he first started driving for Spartanburg District One all those years ago.

Pittman got to know countless students, ushering them to class and to afterschool events, as well as parents, who came to see him as a kind and caring member of the local community.

Now, Pittman has reached a huge milestone, having just logged more than one million miles behind the wheel of that bus.

To honor Pittman’s dedication, the school district is holding a special celebration on Wednesday.

South Carolina State Superintendent Molly Spearman is expected to congratulate Pittman via video conference, and multiple representatives of the State Department of Education will also be there to thank him personally for all his hard work, and the impact he’s had on the community.
