According to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, Devan Chavis Bennett is now back in South Carolina, extradited from Stephens County GA, and is in the Oconee County Detention Center.

27 year old Bennett (photo below) was charged with Attempted Murder when he shot at a female on Spartan Drive in Oconee County last Wednesday, March 25th.  

Bennett was taken into custody in Stephens, GA the following evening.  Extradition began Friday.

While investigating, Deputies learned Bennett also shot at a male at the Spartan Drive incident, bumping up an additional Attempted Murder charge.

In the process, Deputies learned that Bennett's Mother and Step-father assisted Bennett  and have each been charged with Accessory After the Fact of a Felony.

Regina Lee Mote, 47, and Timothy Wayne Rogers, 47, (photos below) are being held in the Oconee County Detention Center.

Both were given $25,000 surety bonds on their charges.

(Walhalla, SC)---An Oconee County man who has been charged by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office in an Attempted Murder investigation has been extradited back to Oconee County.

27 year old Devan Chavis Bennett was apprehended last Thursday evening around 7:30pm in Stephens County (GA). 

The Sheriff’s Office began extradition proceedings last Friday.  Bennett was transported from the jail in Stephens County to the Oconee County Detention Center and booked in around 8:56AM this morning.

Bennett was charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime in regards to a shooting of a female victim at an address on Spartan Drive in the southern part of Oconee County last Wednesday afternoon. 

As a result of evidence gathered in the continuing investigation, Bennett has also been charged by investigators with one additional count of Attempted Murder for attempting to shoot a male in the same incident.

Due to privacy and/or safety concerns, the names of the victim’s in the case are not being released by the Sheriff’s Office.

Also on Thursday of last week, the Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca woman and a Walhalla man on charges related to the same investigation.

47 year old Regina Leigh Mote of Sitton Mill Road and 47 year old Timothy Wayne Rogers of Ranger Road were booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 4:55pm and 7:40pm respectively last Thursday on one count each of Accessory after the Fact of a Felony. 

Mote was also served an outstanding Family Court Bench Warrant. 

According to arrest warrants, which were based on evidence gathered during the investigation, Mote and Rogers rendered assistance to Bennett knowing that Bennett had committed the crime of Attempted Murder.  Mote and Rogers are Bennett’s biological mother and step-father.

At this time, Mote and Rogers remain in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center as both subjects were given $25,000 surety bonds on their charges

 

​A man wanted for attempted murder has been caught across state lines.

A shooting Wednesday on Spartan Drive in Oconee County left one woman injured from a gun shot wound.  The Investigation led Deputies to obtain a warrant for 27 year old  Devan Chavis Bennett.

Master Deputy Jimmy Watt reported receiving word around 7:30pm Thursday night that Bennett had been taken into custody in Stephens County Georgia. 

He was found near the Toccoa Airport.

Bennett is charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a violent crime.

The Sheriff's Office will begin extradition proceedings today.

Just received word a few minutes ago from Captain Reed from the Criminal Investigations Division that 27 year old Devan Chavis Bennett was apprehended in Stephens County, GA near the Toccoa Airport this evening. 

I do not have a lot of particulars on the arrest at this time but it appears that Bennett was taken into custody around 7:30pm this evening.

Bennett was wanted by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office on charges of Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime in relation to a shooting that occurred on Spartan Drive yesterday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office will begin extradition proceedings tomorrow. [Friday]

Bennett was apprehended around 7:30pm yesterday in Stephens County, GA near the Toccoa airport by investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and deputies from the Stephens County (GA) Sheriff’s Office.
