A Sumter County deputy was shot and killed Tuesday morning.

While serving an eviction notice, 37-year-old Cpl. Andrew Gillette was shot in the chest by the man that was being evicted.

Despite wearing a vest for protection, he still died shortly after from the wound.

Authorities said that the man being evicted was also killed when deputies with Gillette fired back. His identity has not been released yet.

Gillette was a veteran of the Air Force and had been serving as a Sumter County deputy since 2013.
